The IndyCar star has been heavily linked with an F1 seat at AlphaTauri in 2023 to potentially replace Pierre Gasly if the Frenchman departs for Alpine. However, Herta does not currently hold enough points - 40 over three years - to qualify for a Super Licence. There have been suggestions of him being granted a waiver by the FIA to switch categories, but F1's governing body is standing firm in its refusal to grant him one. President Mohammed ben Sulayem is believed to be firmly in favour of respecting the sanctity of the present system...
