The IndyCar star has been heavily linked with an F1 seat at AlphaTauri to potentially replace Pierre Gasly if he departs for Alpine. However, Herta does not currently hold enough points - 40 over three years - to qualify for a superlicence. There have been suggestions of him being granted a waiver by the FIA to cross codes, but the governing body of F1 is standing firm in its refusal to grant him one.
