McLaren goes from the brink to the big time
Recency bias really can lessen the impact of certain achievements, and McLaren’s constructors’ championship success can certainly be put into that category. Ever since a major upgrade took the team from point-scorers to race-winners in Miami earlier this year, expectations have rapidly grown to the point that it almost became viewed as a failure if McLaren was not to win the constructors’ crown. A first success in 26 years is a huge achievement, but it also needs viewing in the context of where the team has come from in recent years.
