Wittich leaves FIA race director role with immediate effect

12/11/2024 at 15:0812/11/2024 at 15:19 In an unexpected turn of events, the FIA has announced that Formula 1 race director Niels Wittich has relinquished his role with immediate effect. The governing body has nominated Rui Marques, who has acted as the race director for the FIA’s Formula 3 and Formula 2 series, as Wittich’s successor from next week’s Las Vegas Grand Prix until the end of the F1 season. As an FIA official active in the World Endurance Championship and in the German DTM series, Wittich was placed at the helm of F1’s race control in 2022, following the removal of Michael Masi in the wake of F1’s controversial Abu Dhabi season...
