Piastri Saga: Brown vs Szafnauer the knives are out
The knives are out between McLaren CEO Zak Brown and his Alpine counterpart Otmar Szafnauer over highly rated and hyped Oscar Piastri wanting to defect from the French team to the British one. Piastri's defiance of an Alpine contract which had him in a Formula 1 car next year and, with Fernando Alonso jumping ship to Aston Martin, Szafnauer's team confirmed in a press release that the 21-year-old Australian would join Esteban Ocon. But not so, surprising all and well off the radar, with the prospect of a year at Williams where Alpine would place him if Alonso had stayed, McLaren made Piastri he could not refuse: a race seat as teammate to Lando Norris, because they were paying out...
