Alonso: Points after starting last 'the magic of motorsport'
Fernando Alonso says starting the Spanish Grand Prix dead last and finishing in the points is part of "the magic of motorsport". A mishap in qualifying coupled with an engine change on his Alpine A522 led to Alonso bringing up the rear at the start of Sunday's race in Barcelona. On a track where overtaking opportunities are usually few and far between, the Spaniard anticipated a pointless afternoon and insisted that only luck would enable him to challenge for points at the end of the day. But in typical Alonso fashion, the local hero pulled out the stops from the outset and carved his way through the field with the help of a three-stop strategy that brought him a remarkable ninth...
