‘I feel what is happening even closer to my heart': Wolff condemns Russia's invasion of Ukraine
Having grown up in Austria, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff feels the impact of the war between Russia and Ukraine, and is glad to see the Russian Grand Prix removed from the calendar. On 24 February, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, leading to widespread condemnation from the international community. Mohammed ben Sulayem, president of the FIA, held a meeting with other members of the governing body to discuss what response motorsport should emit regarding the war in Eastern Europe. They decided to cancel the Russian Grand Prix that was set to be held in Sochi in September, before F1 confirmed that it had ended its partnership with the promoters...
