FIA make changes to improve Safety Car restart procedure

Article To news overview An updated version of the 2022 Sporting Regulations has been published by the FIA ahead of the new season getting underway, with a crucial change being made in terms of how races will resume after a Safety Car intervention. Under the old regulations, in place during the 2021 season, an instruction would be sent by Race Control to all the competitors that dictated lapped cars to unlap themselves. The regulation, which was brought into focus due to the contentious ending to the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix season finale, said that "once the last lapped car has passed the leader, the Safety Car will return to the pits at the end of the following lap".
