Verstappen misses out on BBC World Sport Star award

Max Verstappen was beaten to the BBC's prestigious World Sport Star award at the Sports Personality of the Year ceremony on Sunday. Formula 1's newest World Champion had been nominated alongside some of 2021's highest achievers in sport after taking the title in Abu Dhabi a week ago. Mexican boxing legend Saul ‘Canelo' Alvarez, men's tennis world number 1 Novak Djokovic, Jamaican sprinter Elaine Thompson-Herah and American football's Tom Brady, who won his seventh Super Bowl earlier in the year, were also nominated.
