Mercedes explain why Sprint Qualifying schedule creates high risk

Article To news overview © Mercedes Mercedes have explained how the changes to the weekend schedule caused by Sprint Qualifying have the potential to create a lot of risk, but also plenty of excitement too. The debut of the sprint event at the British Grand Prix saw the whole three-day format change. One practice session was held on Friday ahead of traditional qualifying. A second practice session took place on Saturday morning, followed by Sprint Qualifying. The finishing order of the sprint then decided the grid for Sunday's main race. Andrew Shovlin, trackside engineering director at Mercedes, admits that the use of parc ferme between sessions raised the stakes for the engineers....
