Ricciardo hails ‘strongest race' of F1 2021 after beating “faster” Sainz

Starting from seventh, Ricciardo moved ahead of Sainz and Red Bull’s Sergio Perez on the opening lap. The Australian ran in fifth for much of the first half of the race before surrendering the position to Perez as he overtook around the outside of Turn 1. Ricciardo managed to fend off Sainz for sixth, despite Ferrari appearing to have the superior pace in Barcelona. Reflecting on his weekend as a whole, Ricciardo feels he’s made a significant step forward after beating teammate Norris for the first time in 2021. “Happy all weekend,” Ricciardo said. “It was personally a better weekend for sure.
