Sainz keeping it 'on the cautious side' despite positive day
Carlos Sainz led the midfield charge with in Friday's FP2 session, but the Ferrari driver is nevertheless erring "on the cautious side", aware that his main rivals usually make greater strides on Saturday. Sainz clocked in fourth at the end of the afternoon session just 0.36s adrift from pacesetter Lewis Hamilton and 0.163s ahead of Scuderia teammate Charles Leclerc. But just over half a second separated the top-seven runners in Friday's afternoon session, a tight spread that foretells an equally close battle for position behind F1's Mercedes and Red Bull leaders.
