Sprint races to go ahead at three Grand Prix in 2021

Formula 1 will debut a new sprint race format at three Grand Prix this season after the Formula 1 Commission unanimously voted in favour. The format will take place at two European races and one non-European event later in the 2021 season. The sprint qualifying format will see a 100km race go ahead on Saturday afternoon – the result from the sprint qualifying will determine the starting grid for Sunday’s full Grand Prix. The top three finishers of the sprint qualifying will receive points, with first getting three, second will receive two, and third just one point.
