Mercedes: Bottas slow stop caused by misplaced wheel gun

Mercedes technical director James Allison has explained the cause behind Valtteri Bottas‘ slow pit stop during the 2021 Formula 1 season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix. The 10.9 second stop took the Finnish driver out of the battle at the front, although he was able to pit again in order to claim an extra point for the fastest lap of the race on top of his third-place finish. Bottas fell behind Charles Leclerc during the first stint of the race, creating a gap between himself and the front two of Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, but showed excellent pace in his second stint, only for the slow pit stop to scupper his chances of anything better than second.
