Williams drivers ‘saddened, shocked' by family departure
The exit of the Williams family from the eponymous Formula 1 team is a “sad day” for the sport, according to race driver George Russell. The family-run team was sold to Dorilton Capital last month and on Thursday it was announced that Sir Frank Williams and daughter Claire will step aside after this weekend’s event at Monza. Sir Frank has held the role of Team Principal since 1977 while Claire took up the position of Deputy Team Principal, undertaking day-to-day running, in 2013. “It’s a sad day for us,” said George Russell, who joined Williams from the 2019 season.
