Zanardi to be brought out of coma
The process of bringing Alex Zanardi out of his induced coma has started, doctors at the Santa Maria alle Scotte Hospital announced on Thursday. An ex-Formula 1 driver, two-time CART champion and four-time Paralympic gold medalist, Zanardi has been under sedation since June 19 as part of treatment for serious head and facial injuries sustained in a hand-cycling accident in the Obiettivo tricolore road race.
