Pirelli has to change plans: 'That'll happen sometime next year now'
Pirelli was originally supposed to supply 18-inch tyres to Formula 1 from 2021 onwards, but because the new regulations have been postponed to 2022, 13-inch tyres will continue to be used in the royal class of motorsport next year. Pirelli's contract with Formula 1 runs until 2023, which means that the Italian tyre supplier will have to develop a whole new tyre for possibly only two seasons. Indeed, there is a chance that in 2024 it will work with another tyre supplier in Formula 1. This makes it quite an expensive affair for the Italians. Read more Is Renault leaving Formula 1?
