'Wouldn't have anticipated Mercedes dominance to last this long'

Former Williams technical director Pat Symonds has revealed he's surprised Mercedes' dominance in the turbo-hybrid era has lasted as long as it has so far, although he added the initial dominance from 2014 onwards was expected. Symonds, who now works as technical director of F1's motorsports division, had his engines supplied by Mercedes in his stint at Williams, which ended at the end of 2016 as the Grove-based team finished third in the championship in 2014 and 2015.
