Maldonado hit with 10-place grid penalty

– Pastor Maldonado has been handed a 10-place grid penalty for the Japanese Grand Prix after the Lotus driver used his sixth engine of the season during Friday morning's first free practice session at Suzuka.Maldonado is the second driver – after Toro Rosso's Daniil Kvyat – to be hit with a drop under Formula 1's new power unit regulations, which permit drivers to use five of each of the six power unit elements during the season.Maldonado will thus fall 10 places from wherever he qualifies during Saturday's session and, should he be too far down the order for the full penalty to take effect, it will be carried over to the following Russian Grand Prix.
