How many overtakes were completed in 2019 compared to previous years?

The 2019 Formula 1 season was quite two-faced. In the first part of the season, F1 received a lot of criticism for its dull races, but then responded with a few absolutely classic races in the middle and latter parts of the year. This can be seen in the statistics for overtaking. From a purely overtaking perspective, F1 has been through a few down years. 2017 was especially bad with 'just' 435 overtakes in the entire season compared to the 866 in the year before. In the five years before that, there were at least 700 overtakes as well.
