Magnussen confirms McLaren exit

Kevin Magnussen has confirmed he will leave McLaren-Honda at the end of the season, with the team opting not to retain the Dane for 2016. Magnussen made his Formula 1 debut with the Woking-based squad in 2014, but dropped to a reserve role this year as the team signed two-time world champion Fernando Alonso to partner Jenson Button. The Dane had hoped to graduate back to a race seat in 2016, but with Jenson Button extending his deal by a year, and with Alonso retained, found his options blocked. “Yes, when the date of McLaren's option on me passed, I was kind of waiting to hear from them,” Magnussen confirmed to motorsport.com.
