Eighth the maximum – Magnussen

Kevin Magnussen says eighth place in the United States Grand Prix was the best result possible, with not much more pace in the car. The Danish rookie enjoyed a positive first stint, after starting in seventh place, but dropped back as the race progressed. He eventually took the chequered flag some way behind Sebastian Vettel in eighth, saying it was not a weekend to remember for McLaren. 'Eighth position isn’t a fantastic result, but I honestly don’t think we could have got much more out of the car this afternoon,' he said. 'It’s a shame that Jenson lost out on a points finish at the end – I guess he must have run out of tyres – but I was fortunate enough to be slightly farther up...
