Family issues update on Bianchi condition

The family of Jules Bianchi have issued a statement on the Frenchman's condition, confirming that he suffered a diffuse axonal brain injury during the Japanese Grand Prix. The statement describes the 25-year-old as “critical but stable” as he remains in the Intensive Care Unit of the Mie General Medical Centre in Yokkaichi, Japan. A diffuse axonal injury is caused by the sudden movement of the brain within the skull, rather than from a direct blow to the head. Bianchi's Marussia spun into the back of a recovery tractor under yellow flag conditions at the rain-hit Suzuka circuit.
