Formula One 2014: The season so far – Part 1
Formula One was taking a massive step into a brave new world heading into the season-opening race in Australia.
Wholesale rule changes and arguably the most sweeping regulation overhaul since the sport’s inception in the 1950s had added a welcome dose of unpredictability to the competition ahead of the season-opening race.
Testing had given us some indications as to what the pecking order was likely to look like but the formbook was far from set in stone.
We knew, for instance, that Mercedes were ahead while reigning world champions Red Bull were struggling after four straight years of relentless domination.
