FIA works on a spectacular system to improve safety

Even if FIA has pushed hard to improve safety in the last two decades, motorsport cannot reach a level where total safety can be granted. FIA now wants to take another important step in their fight for raising that standard. Since Ayrton Senna’s death no driver suffered mortal injuries. Flying wheels are still very dangerous though even if wheels have to be secured by a steel rope to the car. After a huge crash or when a wheel is not secured properly, both drivers and marhalls are under serious threat. In 2009 Henry Surtees’ head was hit by a wheel and he then succumbed to his injuries. FIA entrusted the American Oscar Nelson Group to work together with the FIA’s Istitute for Safety...
