Vergne handed 10 place grid penalty
Jean-Eric Vergne has been handed a ten-place grid penalty for the Spanish Grand Prix after the loss of a wheel during second free practice was deemed a 'breach of safety'. The Scuderia Toro Rosso driver had been released from a pit-stop moments before the right rear wheel detached as he rounded the first turn during FP2. Following a deliberation of the stewards, STR was regarded as being in a breach of Article 14.7 of the sporting regulations and has subsequently been punished with a 30,000 Euro fine, while Vergne will be demoted ten positions on the grid following qualifying. Vergne was 12th fastest after FP2, with team-mate Daniil Kvyat tenth fastest.
