Smedley confirmed at Williams

Williams has confirmed that Rob Smedley will join Felipe Massa at the team for the 2014 season, following months of speculation. Smedley will join the Grove-based outfit prior to April's Bahrain Grand Prix, in the newly created head of vehicle performance role. The Brit makes the switch following ten seasons at Ferrari, after joining F1′s most successful outfit at the end of 2003. He was initially on the Scuderia's test team, before being promoted to Massa's race engineer in 2006. The team says his new role will 'strengthen the trackside team whilst also supporting the development work back at the factory to help bring more performance to the car throughout the season.'
