Ferrari's race fears realised

A pragmatic Fernando Alonso admitted Ferrari's disappointing pace in the Korean GP simply confirmed what they feared might be the case as early as Friday, after the Spaniard could only manage a sixth-place finish. Any late-season hope that Alonso had of starting to claw his way back into realistic title contention was all-but mathematically extinguished in Yeongam on Sunday as Sebastian Vettel swept to his eighth win of 2013 to open up a 77-point championship lead. Indeed, while Vettel was in command of the race throughout, Alonso spent most of the grand prix trapped behind Nico Hulkenberg's slower Sauber having lost position to the impressive German on the opening lap of the race.
