Whitmarsh: We have made progress

They may only have left Monaco with eight points, but McLaren feel they took a few steps forward in the Principality. Jenson Button crossed the finishe line on the streets of Monte Carlo in sixth place, but his team-mate Sergio Perez crashed out late in the race after he appeared to be on course for a decent haul of points. What will have been pleasing for the team was the fact that both drivers made it into Q3 for only the second time this season, while they were also able to keep within striking distance of Lotus and Ferrari on race day.
