FIA suddenly lifts ban on Russian drivers after four years

The FIA has unexpectedly lifted the restrictions that had prevented Russian and Belarusian competitors from racing under their national identities since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, marking a major shift in the governing body’s position after more than four years. According to multiple reports, the decision was approved by the FIA World Motor Sport Council on 3 August and formally communicated to national federations, competitors, officials and other stakeholders in a letter sent on 13 August by the FIA’s legal department.
