Mercedes explains early-season reliability struggles under 2026 F1 regulations
Mercedes deputy technical director Simone Resta has admitted that the introduction of Formula 1's all-new 2026 power unit regulations created significant reliability challenges, explaining why Mercedes-powered teams suffered more technical problems than many of their rivals during the opening phase of the season. Mercedes, McLaren, Williams and Alpine all experienced a series of reliability-related retirements and power unit failures in the first half of the campaign, prompting questions over whether Mercedes High Performance Powertrains (HPP) had encountered more difficulties than rival manufacturers Ferrari, Honda and Audi.
