Hamilton rues costly mistakes after frustrating Hungarian Grand Prix
The seven-time world champion enjoyed a strong qualifying performance at the Hungaroring, missing pole position by just 0.012 seconds to McLaren's Lando Norris. However, Hamilton's hopes of challenging for victory were dealt a major blow when he received a three-place grid penalty for impeding Oscar Piastri during the final phase of qualifying. The sanction dropped the Ferrari driver to fifth on the grid, forcing him into what he described as a race of 'damage limitation' at the Budapest race. Starting on the soft tyres, Hamilton initially looked capable of recovering lost ground.
