Fernando Alonso is impressing everyone and everything this season. The almost 42-year-old Spaniard has been on the podium five times already and is constantly competing for the front positions. The Aston Martin driver seems to have lost very little of his speed despite his age. Alfa Romeo Racing team representative Alessandro Alunni Bravi would without a second thought contract Alonso even in three years' time.

"I would always contract Fernando, even if he was 45 or older. I got to know him well at McLaren when I was manager of Stoffel Vandoorne, who was his teammate at the time. I was able to see with my own eyes what he is capable of on a daily basis as a driver and how determined he is...," Bravi told Spanish Mundo Deportivo in an interview .

After the 2018 season, Alonso left his then employer after lesser years with engine supplier Honda and, in the final season, a Renault power unit. He opted for an adventure in the WEC (World Endurance Championship) and there Bravi has seen Alonso really change.

Bravi impressed with Alonso

"He is now a big 'badass' again (in the good sense of the word) and he has a huge desire to show his qualities, it's like he is a 'rookie' driving his first year in F1. This year, he has a competitive car at his disposal with which to show how good he is. He is a champion. You don't win two world titles in F1 if you don't have certain attributes. It's a pleasure for me to watch him. We are happy with our drivers, but I cannot hide the fact that Fernando is one of the best drivers in F1 and that has to be recognised," said the 48-year-old Italian.
