Romain Grosjean has his doubts about the appointment of two French drivers at a French racing stable. The former Haas driver thinks a battle may break out at Alpine over who is the best French driver, but also thinks it could be a success story if it does go off without a hitch.

Alpine already had Esteban Ocon under contract and chose the other Frenchman on the grid, Pierre Gasly, to replace the Fernando Alonso who left for Aston Martin. Following the announcement of Gasly's arrival at the French racetrack, there was much discussion about the fact that he would team up with Ocon, a driver with whom he previously shared tensions from their younger years. Earlier, Gasly expressed his opinion that the media is inflating the relationship between him and Ocon, and as far as he is concerned there are no problems working together.

Danger

On his own YouTube channel Grosjean spoke out about the dangers lurking for Alpine in appointing two French drivers to the same racing stable. "It could end badly, I'm not going to lie to you. Alpine will have to keep an eye on the relationship between the two. If it becomes an ego battle to be the best French driver on the grid at the only French team, it could end badly."

Mature

Still, the former F1 driver, a Frenchman himself, does not want to be too pessimistic. He thinks if both drivers can show maturity, it can also actually become a very nice story for the French racing stable. "It can also go very well. They are two guys who were not the best of friends when they were young, but they have matured a lot. They both have wins in Formula 1 and if they fit well together and work well together, it could be a very nice and fun success story for a brand like Alpine. That is one of my wishes."
