The Spa-Francorchamps circuit is currently being rebuilt. The organisers of the circuit in the Belgian Ardennes have decided to add a number of grandstands, allowing it to accommodate even more motorsport fans, reports Motorsport.com.

Spa-Francorchamps already went through a major overhaul last year, yet the renovations are not over yet. From La Source to Raidillon there will be new grandstands, one of which will be covered. The uncovered section will accommodate as many as 3,139 motorsport fans. The covered section will have 4,104 seats, with 40 folding seats. People who buy a ticket for this section will get a view of La Source, the old Formula 1 pit lane and Raidillon. There will also be a space that can be divided into two areas and can seat another 3,700 people. The renovation has already started 10 October and the circuit hopes that if everything goes according to schedule, it will be completed by April 2023. The additions of the grandstands will give Spa-Francorchamps a total of 16,000 seats.

Investment

At the end of 2021, the circuit temporarily closed for a major renovation. A new grandstand was built on Raidillon and several exit lanes on the circuit were extended. It cost the organisation some 25 million euros. Not only did this make Spa-Francorchamps invest in safety, it also enabled the return of FIM events like the Spa 24 Hours for motorbikes. The main race at the circuit is, of course, Formula 1. The World Endurance Championship is also run annually at the Belgian track. The future of F1 at Spa was in doubt. 2022 seemed, for now, to be the last year Spa would host the class. However, due to difficult negotiations with Kyalami, the top class will also run at the legendary circuit in the Ardennes in 2023.
