Alex Albon says he will drive at the Singapore Grand Prix

The Williams driver will be back in the FW44 for the team after sitting out the Italian Grand Prix due to appendicitis.

Alex Albon says he will be driving the FW44 for Williams at this weekend's Singapore Grand Prix. The London-born Thai had to sit out the Italian Grand Prix due to suffering from appendicitis, prompting him to be replaced by Nyck de Vries. After being admitted to hospital for surgery, Albon subsequently had complications which led to respiratory failure and a brief period in intensive care. Williams have put De Vries on standby in case he was needed again, after Albon admitted that it might be "tough" to be ready in time for Singapore. Speaking ahead of the weekend Albon said he has "done everything possible" to get ready to compete in one of the longest and toughest races physically on the calendar. "Firstly, I’d just like to thank everyone for all their messages and support over the Italian Grand Prix weekend," said Albon. "My preparation for Singapore has been a little different than normal but I’m feeling good and I’ve done everything possible to get ready for one of the most physical races on the calendar."

Albon "not underestimating" how big of a challenge it will be

Albon added that he is "not underestimating" how much of a challenge that Singapore will be, especially as fellow drivers have spoken about how tough it is set to be with the bumps and humidity. "I am not underestimating how big of a challenge this is going to be, but I am looking forward to hitting the track on Friday and getting back driving. "It’s a great street circuit and the closest race to home for me in Thailand, so I’m really excited to be here and to see the fans that have turned out."
