Team ratings | Mercedes makes comeback, Ferrari throws away double win

Formula One viewers worldwide witnessed a thrilling race at Silverstone on Sunday in which Ferrari, Red Bull Racing and Mercedes battled it out for the podium positions. Which teams came out on top and got the highest marks on their reports?

Red Bull Racing: 7.5

Max Verstappen was the overwhelming favourite to win at Silverstone, but a piece of carbon fibre prevented him from taking the top step of the podium. Sergio Perez was also damaged by contact with Charles Leclerc, after which he dropped back to second place. Not a great day for Red Bull Racing, who were not to blame for what happened during the race and managed to limit the damage by keeping their cool.

Ferrari: 7

Carlos Sainz may have taken the win on behalf of Ferrari, but the team once again found it hard to cope. While Sainz benefited from Verstappen's damage and a late tyre change during the safety car, the team missed out on Leclerc. The Monegasque could have won the race and closed the gap on Verstappen, but his team denied him the opportunity by allowing the driver to continue on old tyres.

Mercedes: 8.5

Mercedes made a real comeback at Silverstone. Historically, the track has been a good match for the team, but the immense porpoising problems it suffered finally seem to be a thing of the past. Hamilton drove his best race of the year, even taking the lead briefly, but for Russell the race ended at the first corner. A strong weekend for Mercedes, which Red Bull believes only missed a potential opportunity in Hamilton's pit-stop strategy.

McLaren: 7

Nothing new under the sun at McLaren, where Lando Norris finished well ahead of his teammate for the umpteenth time. He might have finished fifth if his team had responded earlier with a safety car pit stop. Daniel Ricciardo, on the other hand, finished as the third-lowest driver in the field and is still struggling to find his feet at the Woking-based team.

Alpine: 6.5

Alpine proved to be on top of the game, bringing in Fernando Alonso at the safety car and gaining a place at the expense of Norris. Esteban Ocon was also on the pace, but he suffered a technical problem that forced him to retire early.

Alfa Romeo: 3.5

Alfa Romeo escaped with a fright after the serious accident of Guanyu Zhou, who was fortunately unscathed. After a strong qualifying session, Sunday ended in disappointment for the team, which also saw Valtteri Bottas retire with a technical problem.

AlphaTauri: 5

An embarrassing moment for AlphaTauri came when Yuki Tsunoda was very optimistic, sacrificing both himself and teammate Pierre Gasly. In doing so, the Japanese driver deprived his team of a good chance of scoring points, so he may not be allowed to compete with his teammate for the foreseeable future.

Haas: 9

A double points finish is a fantastic result for Haas, which lost both of its drivers in Q1 on Saturday. Mick Schumacher drove the race of his life and scored his first ever points after a thrilling final battle with Max Verstappen. Kevin Magnussen also did well by taking the final point with a tenth place.

Aston Martin: 7

Lance Stroll narrowly missed out on a top ten finish, but Sebastian Vettel did well to finish ninth. There finally seems to be some progress at Aston Martin, but whether that will last will become clear in the coming races.

Williams: 6

At Williams it was Nicholas Latifi who impressed for once. The Canadian qualified in tenth place, but was unable to hold on to it. For Alexander Albon, the race ended at the start, through no fault of his own.
