Why Norris is refusing to get carried away by McLaren pace

Lando Norris was third fastest during FP2 at the British Grand Prix, a race on home soil for the 22-year-old.

Lando Norris is refusing to get excited by his impressive performance during Friday practice at the British Grand Prix. The young McLaren driver was third fastest on home soil during FP2, lapping faster than title protagonists Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen. His performance has left the British fans dreaming that he could secure a first Silverstone podium this weekend, all while Lewis Hamilton and George Russell appear to have moved one step closer to the cars at the front. However, Norris is refusing to get carried away, with the 22-year-old sceptical of how hard rival teams were pushing their cars. "Whether we're good or not, or whether it's because we've turned up [our car] more than the others: we don't know," he said.

Norris happy with McLaren car, regardless

Despite his scepticism, Norris is pleased with how his car performed through the drying, high-speed Silverstone Circuit. "I'm happy. The car seems to be in a decent place at least, a little bit better than what we were expecting," he said. "As far as we know from ourselves, things are in a good area and we can find some more improvements tomorrow. "The wind conditions make it extremely difficult. "As good as it looked, it's still difficult to put things together and to be consistent and so on, especially in the long runs.
