Gasly reacts as AlphaTauri confirm his future for 2023

Pierre Gasly will stay with AlphaTauri for another season, and the Frenchman has since explained what his goals will be going forwards.

Pierre Gasly says he is "happy" to remain with AlphaTauri after his place with the team in 2023 was confirmed. Gasly's future has been speculated about in recent months, though his team boss Franz Tost recently made clear that the Frenchman would be remaining at the squad for another season. This news has since been made official, and Gasly has given his reaction to the confirmation that he will enter into his sixth full-time season in Formula 1 with AlphaTauri.

Gasly looks ahead to next 18 months with AlphaTauri

"I have been with this team for five years now and I am proud of the journey we’ve been through together and the progress we have made," Gasly commented. "I'm happy to remain with my Scuderia AlphaTauri team. "This year's new regulations have created new challenges for us and being able to plan our development with the team for the next 18 months is a good working basis for the future."

How Gasly's journey with the team has unfolded

Gasly first competed for AlphaTauri – formerly known as Toro Rosso – in five races towards the end of the 2017 campaign. He went on to join the outfit full-time in 2018, before being promoted to the main Red Bull squad for 2019. After struggling to match the pace of teammate Max Verstappen, Gasly was demoted back to the sister team, but has gone from strength to strength since. In 2019 he scored his first podium result at the Brazilian Grand Prix, and memorably took a surprise debut win at the 2020 Italian Grand Prix. AlphaTauri have endured mixed fortunes so far in 2022, and Gasly currently sits P11 in the World Championship standings.
