It was a battle on the edge. For many laps, Daniel Ricciardo, Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz duelled during the American Grand Prix, sometimes even with the three of them next to each other. Great to see for the fans, but the Spaniard of Ferrari had a bitter aftertaste. With thanks to the jury, who treated him unfairly.

"The jury is playing with our positions"

"I'm not happy with the way they played with our positions," Sainz complained to Motorsport-Total afterwards. "That was a bit confusing." With that, the former teammate of Max Verstappen was referring to the fight on the first lap, at going into turn 12. What exactly happened? At the entry of the corner Carlos Sainz chose the route over the exit lane and ended up in front of Lando Norris. The same Norris who had overtaken him on the asphalt seconds earlier.

"In Turn 15 I wanted to let Lando pass me again," Sainz continued. "Only Ricciardo had already overtaken Lando at that point. So I passed Daniel, because he was now ahead." But a few laps later, Sainz was ordered by the judges to give his position back to Norris. "So in total this cost me two spots. I think that's unfair."

Sainz is the first to admit that it was a complex situation. But: "I let a McLaren through, just in case the sports commissioners intervened. And then they intervene, while I let a McLaren pass. I think that should be sufficient. Now I had to overtake Lando again."
