Verstappen admits win 'doesn't change a lot' in his confidence

Max Verstappen might have reason to feel more confident about his title chances following his victory at the United States Grand Prix, but the Red Bull driver has denied that this is the case.

Max Verstappen says that winning the United States Grand Prix has not had any effect on his confidence level as the title fight heads into its final stages. The Dutchman claimed victory ahead of rival Lewis Hamilton at the Circuit of the Americas, and as a result has a 12-point lead in the World Championship standings. However, Verstappen is not getting carried away as he believes that the remainder of the season will require Red Bull to continue to get the details right. "This doesn't really change a lot," Verstappen told select media including RacingNews365.com when asked whether his victory had given him more confidence. "Because it's all about details, I always say it, so a win doesn't give me more confidence or whatever. "We are all confident within the team that we can do a really good job, but we need to nail the details and we have to start over again in Mexico, to try to get the best out of our whole package." In terms of those details, Verstappen thinks that the team did a particularly good job in turning their fortunes around during the weekend in Austin, having taken a step forward from Friday's running to their performance on Saturday and Sunday. "First of all, I think the turnaround from Friday to Saturday with the car... I think we found a better setup," he explained. "But then again also to the race, we of course start on pole, we lose the lead and we went aggressive on strategy and it paid out. But it can also very easily swing, if you go too early or if you're not reacting in time. "So it's really tough out there, when it's so close between two teams." There are five races remaining in the season, with the next being the Mexican Grand Prix on 5-7 November.
