Giovinazzi: 'Not easy' to race with doubts over future

Antonio Giovinazzi is still uncertain about whether he will be in Formula 1 next season, with his spot at Alfa Romeo the only unconfirmed seat on the 2022 grid. The Italian admits that this adds a level of pressure.

Antonio Giovinazzi has admitted that it is difficult to race without knowing his future, given that he still does not know whether he will keep his seat at Alfa Romeo in 2022. The Italian is in his third full-time season with the team, but has had to wait each year to find out if he would remain with the outfit. The situation is no different this year, though Giovinazzi's spot is now the only unconfirmed place on the 2022 grid. "For sure, it's not easy," Giovinazzi told select media including RacingNews365.com . "If you ask this question to all of the drivers, they will answer that it's not easy; you want to know what you will do next year, if you're here or not. "So it's not ideal, but the situation is this now for me, and I will try to do my best as well with this pressure on me. "But I like I mentioned already many times, for me, September, October, it's been always like this. I always had some issues with what I will do the next season, and this is happening also this year. "The problem is not in my hands, so it's not my decision. What I can do is just bring the results, be fast, and then see what [Alfa Romeo] will decide." The speculation over Giovinazzi's future was perhaps not helped by the fact that he ignored a team order to let teammate Kimi Raikkonen pass him at the Turkish Grand Prix . Despite this, the 27-year-old insists there are no issues between himself and the squad. "I think it's an issue that sometimes comes, and it came already in the past, but I don't like, to be honest, to comment on this here," Giovinazzi explained. "I just like to discuss this with the team, inside of the team. But it's not the first time, and the important thing is that we're okay now, all fine. "I believe in my team, they believe in me, so the only thing that is [important] now is that we score points. This is what we want, all of us, and we will try to do our best already from here in Austin." Giovinazzi has scored one point this season, and Alfa Romeo are currently in ninth place in the Constructors' Championship with seven points.
