Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff has said that he understands the mindset of both Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton after the pair collided once again at Monza two weeks ago. With the rivalry between Verstappen and Hamilton heating up as the season enters its closing stages, they have been involved in two collisions in the past five races, both of which have had a significant impact on the title fight. Wolff said that if the two drivers really wanted to avoid collisions, they would make sure of it. "I think they pretty much know what they do," Wolff told select members of the press, including RacingNews365.com . "In my opinion, if they both wanted to avoid collisions, we would have less collisions. If they don't avoid collisions because they feel it's right to not bail out or not give room then we will have more. We aren't sitting in the cars. "They also race each other very close now, which wasn't the case in the past. "I think the change of approach is that Lewis pretty much decided not to bail out anymore when he thinks that the corner is his. It needs two to tango, it needs two to understand each other on track. "They are in the cars, we have no influence on the driving, they will know much better than us how the other one is racing. It's interesting to watch." Wolff acknowledged that he is viewing the title fight from a position where bias is only natural, and is trying to be more circumspect after feeling frustrated at missing out on battling for the win in Italy. "The point is that these two are racing for a Drivers' Championship and you can't expect them to have velvet gloves on," he said. "That's why we are going to see harsh moments like this, I believe.
