Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto believes a high use of the Italian manufacturer's simulator has played a key role in recent events. Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz have showed strong race pace since their disastrous French GP when high tyre wear saw them drop out of the top 10. Leclerc's podium at the weekend at Silverstone provided further proof of Ferrari's turn around. “I won’t go into the details on what we did, but we certainly worked a lot in the simulator with simulations, with the drivers, with the team, trying to get a better understanding of what’s wrong, how to address it," Binotto told RacingNews365.com and other select members of the press. "I think this is why I’m happy and pleased, to see the progress." Leclerc was less than three laps away from winning the British Grand Prix, only to be overtaken by Lewis Hamilton. Despite not being victorious, Binotto thinks the performance is just as important as the final result. "I think obviously it was disappointing [to lose out on the victory to Hamilton] two laps from the end but I think we should be pleased as well: pleased with the race performance, for the entire weekend performance," said Binotto. "After France as well I think the team results, we somehow understood the weaknesses and now this is three races in a row where we have had good pace in the race, which was a weakness at the start of the season, showing that as a team we are progressing and that is what I am more pleased [about] especially when we look at the second part of the season."
