Tsunoda annoyed by Q1 exit: Weighbridge visit f**ked everything

AlphaTauri's Yuki Tsunoda was left frustrated by being knocked out in Q1, saying a weighbridge visit prevented him from preparing optimally for his last flying lap.

AllphaTauri's Yuki Tsunoda was an unwilling spectator after the first part of qualifying, with the Japanese rookie knocked out in Q1 in 16th place. Speaking after the session, Tsunoda explained that a call to the FIA weighbridge in the closing minutes of Q1 meant he had to hurry to get on with his final flying lap and this meant his tyres weren't in the correct window. "Yeah, I think the weigh bridge f**ked everything," Tsunoda told media, including RacingNews365. "Yeah, the end was really tight and I couldn't do a proper cooldown lap. And also the last corners, a lot of cars were waiting and I lost three tenths already in the main straight. "I almost regained the three tenths in the third lap but the loss I already had in Sector 1 on the main straight and also I couldn't do a proper cooldown lap so yeah, it's just a shame." His fastest time in Q1 was set on his second run, which he also felt wasn't optimal due to traffic on his lap. "I would say the second laptime wasn't perfect due to the traffic," he explained. "I started to get used to it, the driving, and I started also to feel a confidence and yeah, it feels like I gotta start now! But it's already finished in Q1. "But yeah, just everything fucks everything from weighbridge and last corners...traffic." Heading into the Sprint Qualifying race from so far back, Tsunoda isn't hopeful of making much progress to better his starting position for the Grand Prix on Sunday. "I don't think it's gonna be an overtake show, because it's gonna be DRS train for 17 laps. So it's gonna be difficult, but we'll see what's gonna happen. I just tried to push as much as possible."
