Giovinazzi hoping Italian shine continues at Silverstone after Euro win

Alfa Romeo's Antonio Giovinazzi is hopeful that he can continue Italy's successful sporting week, after the national team won the Euro 2020 final against England.

Antonio Giovinazzi is hopeful that he can emulate some of the successes of Italy's national team this weekend at Silverstone. The Alfa Romeo driver, the only Italian driver on the grid in 2021, is celebrating the victory of his national football team after Italy beat England in the Euro 2020 final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, and is hopeful that some of that fortune applies to his own performances this weekend. “I am excited to get back to racing, especially with the enthusiasm from the celebrations of Italy’s European Championship victory still fresh in my mind," Giovinazzi told the media ahead of the British Grand Prix. "I hope some of this shine can rub on me this weekend and we can deliver a more successful weekend than the last two races, when we were effectively out of contention on the first lap without fault." Alfa Romeo have scored just two points from the first nine races, courtesy of a solitary tenth place finish from both Giovinazzi and Kimi Raikkonen. Heading into the British weekend with the added unknown factor of the Sprint Qualifying, Giovinazzi is hopeful of adding to their points tally at Silverstone. "We know we can be competitive and fight against any of our direct rivals when things don’t go against us, so let’s make sure this weekend is when we get it right.”
