Charles Leclerc was very close to pole position during today's qualifying session. He was on track to claim it but his lap fell apart in the final sector meaning that the Ferrari driver will start the race in third position. Instead of being disappointed, the Ferrari driver sees it as a positive as he is so close to the two Mercedes.

"I knew I was ahead," Leclerc told the Official F1 Website after the session. "I kept my head down and tried to take the most out of the lap and that's what I did. I'm very very happy with this.

"All weekend we've been losing time in the last sector due to an issue with the front end that we just can't make work.

"Seeing such a small gap between us and first position, I'm sure that if we work on the issue with our front end that we will be performing the way we want."

Both Ferrari's will start the race on the soft tyre and it seemed like a strange decision at the time but Leclerc reveals it was planned.

"I was very happy with the way it was done. It was exactly as planned."

It's going to be a great Grand Prix and hopefully, we see a good race between the top three.

My thought was the choice of the soft tire compound to run Q3.

It might help them to get somewhat of an advantage at first. I don't believe they will last long enough for an undercut stop. Unless Tinker Bell shows up to correct the front wing issue tires will their achilles heel.
