Toto Wolff has admitted he would understand if Lewis Hamilton was tempted to move to rivals Ferrari but is hopeful the five-time World Champion will finish his career with more titles at Mercedes.
Hamilton has won four of the last five world titles only losing out in 2016 to teammate Nico Rosberg, which brought about one of the most controversial climaxes in F1 history. Ferrari have lagged behind Mercedes in recent years, struggling to cope with their consistency and it has been highlighted at the start of the 2019 season with the Silver Arrows collecting four consecutive one-twos.
Despite his dominance, Wolff wouldn’t be surprised if Hamilton wanted the chance to race for the Scuderia: "Of course, and we also talked about it openly with each other.
“Ferrari is a phenomenal brand, the most prestigious in F.1, and every driver dreams of winning a World Championship with the Cavallino, I understand it perfectly.
"Mercedes has a great story and we have renewed the glories of the past, something Lewis is proud of. Nobody knows the future.
“I hope he finishes his career by winning other titles with us, but I know everyone has the desire to go with the redhead.”
