Daniel Ricciardo believes all of the F1 drivers will be able to enjoy their food more following the minimum weight rule change which is set to also affect how drivers train.
Drivers were forced to get to the minimum weight of 734kg which often meant drivers went hungry over race weekends which was a big issue for bigger drivers.
The FIA have now changed the current rule to allow for a bit more snacking, the rule is: the driver and seat must weigh at least 80kg, in the case of failing to make the weight a ballast will be added to the vehicle.
In an interview on FormulaPassion Ricciardo said: “Everyone will appreciate our food a little more.
“I'm not complaining, but it's just that many of us tended to die of hunger during the race weekends.”
Ricciardo is set to race for Renault for the first time in 2019 and the Australian believes it will change the way drivers train.
“Even in training, we could not really work too hard on the strength, because we would have put on mass.
“This allows us to train harder, to eat more.
“It's not that we'll have beer or other bellies, we'll simply be stronger and I think it's just a good thing.”
