Lucas di Grassi has been excluded from qualifying despite finishing 0.526s ahead of Sebastien Buemi. The Nissan e.dams driver, Buemi will now look to seize his chance from P1 after originally expecting to start the race in second.

Di Grassi was being investigated for a brake infringement on his in-lap during regular qualifying and will now start at the back of the grid.

The Audi Sport team, who di Grassi drives for spoke out, about the rule change on twitter saying: “the rule was changed before the weekend and says that the driver must use the brakes in the same intensity as on his fast lap.”

Sebastien Buemi and Pascal Wehrlein will now make up the front row in first and second respectively following di Grassi’s demotion.

The Santiago E Prix gets underway at 7pm UK time.
